Tesla Semi volume production to start soon, confirms Elon Musk

Tesla (TSLA) stock jumps to $1,000 after an Elon Musk email leaks saying the Tesla Semi Truck is not transitioning to volume production.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that it is about time that the fully-electric class 8 Tesla Semi Truck should get into volume production, he also mentioned that the battery-pack and powertrain for the Tesla Semi would be built at the Gigafactory 1 in Sparks, Nevada.

This surprising message has been found in a leaked email from Elon Musk that was sent to the Tesla employees and was shared on Twitter possibly by a Tesla employee or someone that is in connection with someone at Tesla, the content of the email is as follows:

It’s time to go all out and bring the Tesla Semi to volume production. It’s been in limited production so far, which has allowed us to improve many aspects of the design.

Production of the batter and powertrain would take place at Giga Nevada, with most of the other work probably occurring in other states.

Jerome and I are very excited to work with you to bring this amazing product to market!

When asked if this circulating email is actually legit, Elon Musk replied “Yes” — in response to another question about where the actual assembly and production of the Tesla Semi will take place, Elon Musk said, “We shall see”.

Elon Musk dodged a good question here in my opinion as he did not reveal the location of the next Gigafactory in the United States, the opportunity for which multiple cities such as Houston, Austin, and Tulsa are battling each other — it may be that Tesla has already decided the location but is going to make the announcement in a better way, not in a single tweet, it will be a moment to celebrate.

A few prototypes of the Tesla Semi Truck have been seen for the last couple of years and the Silicon Valley-based automaker is showcasing them to the clients in North America, the last time we spotted these electric behemoths was when they were crossing the Canadian-US border as they were headed back home after rigorous cold-weather testing.

Tesla sent an official email to Semi Truck reservation holders earlier this year that the company is willing to start limited production of the Semi in the 2nd half of this year but at that time the country wasn’t badly hit by the COVID-19 situation.

Tesla also plans to use its fully-electric Semi as a car transport carrier in the future, the automaker showcased this ability in a couple of videos (see below) — Tesla amazed a few customers by arriving with their car deliveries on a Tesla Semi las year in California. When in production, the Tesla Semi can actually lower the delivery and logistics cost for the company and will also help reduce carbon emissions further by eliminating the diesel-powered semi car carriers from the logistics supply chain.

TSLA Crosses $1,000

While this development took place this morning, on the other hand, the Tesla stock price (TSLA) crossed the $1,000 USD mark, this makes Tesla the most valuable automotive company in the world — exactly one year ago the TSLA price was $212.88 USD who could’ve imagined this happening in just a year but this is still low compared to the prediction by Ark Invest CEO Catherine Wood’s $7,000 USD in 2024, she was not wrong in saying that “Tesla’s run has just started”.
